The PGA of America will announce the captain of the 2025 US Ryder Cup tournament on Tuesday in New York – and it almost certainly will not be Tiger Woods.
Woods was considered the most likely candidate for the post, but according to media reports on Monday, he declined the invitation.
Woods had pushed for a reduced role to that of captain, but he and the PGA of America could not agree on what that would entail, the report said.
According to Sports Illustrated, Keegan Bradley will be named captain. The 38-year-old took part in the Ryder Cup in 2012 and 2014.
Other possible candidates include former captains Zach Johnson (2023), Steve Stricker (2021), Jim Furyk (2018) and Davis Love III (2016), as well as Fred Couples, Stewart Cink, Matt Kuchar, Rickie Fowler and Phil Mickelson.
The biennial competition will take place from September 26-28, 2025, at Bethpage Black on Long Island, New York. Luke Donald returns as European captain after leading his team to victory in Rome in 2023.
