He died at the scene of the accident.

Six teenagers were in the Jeep when it struck Mr Taylor’s vehicle.

Two 15-year-old teenagers were arrested at the scene and charged with car theft.

Four young men fled on foot; a 17-year-old was arrested in Malvern East on Wednesday evening.

Three other men are apparently still on the run.

Mr Taylor was a passionate footballer and his former club Ashburton United paid tribute to the young man in a touching post on social media.

“Ashy was devastated to learn of the passing of our former player Will Taylor,” the club wrote.

“Will was an Ashy junior who worked his way up through the ranks to our first team and helped the team advance to State 3.

“He was a wonderful young man and one of the really nice guys in the world.

“Despite his quiet and humble style, he was a force on the field, a gifted player who never gave up and always gave his best for the team and the club.

“The football community has lost one of the game’s true servants and the world is a sadder place without our pal Wilba.

“Our deepest condolences go out to Nick, Denise and the rest of his family.

“Our thoughts are with you.”
