Injuries are piling up on the West Coast, with star Elliot Yeo joining Jake Waterman and Liam Duggan on the sidelines as they prepare to face St Kilda at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.
Yeo was listed as one of four absences for the Eagles, along with Duggan (concussion), Waterman (knee) and Tyler Brockman (ankle), who took a six-day break following their loss to Brisbane last weekend.
Despite the loss of Waterman, interim coach Jarrad Schofield surprisingly did not use the 203 cm tall draft striker Archer Reid and will instead compete with a smaller attacking line than his predecessor.
Speedster Jack Petruccelle makes his first appearance since Round 15 due to a thigh injury, while Campbell Chesser, Josh Rotham and Jai Culley are also newcomers.
Archer Reid, who has yet to make his debut, and championship hero Dom Sheed are the accompanying emergency runners.
Experienced Jack Darling remains sidelined after being left out of the squad for the first time in his 293-game career ahead of the clash with Brisbane.
The Eagles have changed their tactics from earlier in the season, when they played with three big forwards – Waterman, Darling and Oscar Allen – plus one ruckman and one reserve ruckman.
Instead, Allen will be the key striker, while Bailey and Jack Williams will share ruck duties and spend time up front.
Ryan Maric has been named to the striker position despite playing predominantly as a winger in Schofield’s first stint as manager, while Jack Hutchinson, drafted mid-season, is in the other position.
Rotham will help bolster a defence that will be without star player Jeremy McGovern for the second week in a row due to a lung and rib injury, while Petruccelle is expected to alternate between midfield and attack.
Culley comes in for Duggan having kicked two goals from 23 possessions in the WAFL, while Chesser could spend more time as an inside midfielder in Yeo’s absence, having played primarily as a winger in the AFL.
Chesser was a regular in centre bounces in the WAFL at the weekend, finishing with 18 disposals, six clearances and six tackles in the win over West Perth.
