Three teenagers have been charged after allegedly committing a horrific car theft in a crime spree in Melbourne’s southeast.
It is alleged that the young trio approached an Uber Eats food delivery driver who was parked outside a house on Romsey Place in Langwarrin at around 1.45pm on Thursday.
As the driver was bringing the delivery to the front door, a 17-year-old was reportedly seen jumping out of a passing pickup truck and into the driver’s seat.
The 33-year-old victim reportedly desperately tried to pull the teenager out of his car before another teenager ran out of the pickup truck and hit the driver in the head.
As the perpetrator drove away, the man got caught under the vehicle and suffered serious injuries.
Police allege the three teenagers parked the car on Paddington Road in Oakleigh before breaking into the home of an elderly couple on nearby Carlisle Crescent.
“While in the apartment, the perpetrators allegedly threatened and attacked the elderly residents and searched the house,” police said.
The couple, who were over 80 years old, suffered minor injuries.
The three suspected perpetrators, all 17 years old, were quickly arrested by police who surrounded the house.
The three boys, from Reservoir, Langwarrin and Oakleigh, were charged with aggravated burglary and aggravated theft of a motor vehicle.
While the boy from Oakleigh remains in hospital under police guard, the other two boys are due to appear in youth court on Friday.
They will appear in court again on August 1.
