A surfer was bitten by a shark on one of Perth’s most popular beaches on Wednesday afternoon.
The Ministry of Primary Industries and Regional Development has urged the public to exercise extra caution at Trigg Beach after a male surfer was bitten at around 5.35pm.
The extent of the man’s injuries is unknown, but they are not believed to be life-threatening.
Local authorities are working with the department to coordinate a response to the biting incident.
“It is assumed that it is a small shark,” the authority said.
“Please pay attention to the signs posted and exercise particular caution in the Trigg Beach area.”
At about the same time, an unknown species of shark was spotted on the beach, just 10 meters offshore. The species of shark that attacked the man is still unknown.
This comes after a spearfisherman was bitten by a shark near Coral Bay just after 11am on Monday 8 June. He was taken to the Coral Bay Nursing Post for treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries.
Anyone who sees a shark should call the water police on 9442 8600.
