The Albanese government has urged major Australian banks to maintain their operations in the Pacific states, fearing that withdrawing these services could give China the opportunity to expand its influence in the region.
The importance of continued business and multilateral cooperation between Australia and the Pacific will be addressed by Finance Minister Jim Chalmers in his keynote address at the Pacific Banking Forum on Tuesday, calling on the private sector to play its part.
