Tiger Woods insists he is not considering retirement and made a snarky comment towards Colin Montgomerie for suggesting he should quit tennis.
The 48-year-old won the last of his 15 majors at the 2019 Masters and has struggled with fitness following the 2021 car accident in which he almost lost a leg.
Former rival Montgomerie said last week that it was time for the 15-time major champion to call it a day.
Before the Open at Royal Troon, Woods was asked if he would respond to Montgomerie’s comments and he said: “I’m going to play as long as I can play and feel like I can still win the event.”
“As a former (Open) champion, I am exempt until I am 60. Colin is not, as he is not a former champion, he is not exempt.
“He doesn’t have the right to make that decision. I do. When I’m his age, I can make that decision. He doesn’t.”
