Comedy-rock duo Tenacious D – consisting of Jack Black and Kyle Gass – have cancelled the remainder of their tour after Gass made comments about the assassination of Donald Trump during a show in Australia.

When Gass was on stage at a concert in Sydney on Sunday, Black gave him a birthday cake and asked him to make a wish.

Gass responded, “Don’t miss Trump next time,” an apparent reference to the shooting at the rally a day earlier in which the former president suffered an ear injury.

Gass’s video was widely shared on social media.

“I was completely taken aback by what was said at Sunday’s show. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form,” Black said in a statement on Instagram on Tuesday.

“After careful consideration, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”

After Black’s statement, Gass apologized on Instagram.

“The line I improvised in Sydney on Sunday night was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake,” he wrote on Tuesday.

“I do not condone violence in any form, in any way, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy and I am incredibly sorry for my serious lapse in judgment.”

The band recently completed dates in the US and Europe.

Their Spicy Meatball Tour was scheduled to continue in Newcastle on Tuesday night and stop in most major cities in Australia and New Zealand this month before returning to the US for a few select dates in October.

“Frontier Touring regrets to announce that tonight’s Tenacious D concert at Newcastle Entertainment Centre has been postponed,” their tour company said in a statement on Instagram on Tuesday.

“Ticket holders are asked to hold onto their tickets until further information is available.”

When asked for further comment from a representative of the band, the Associated Press referred to Black’s statement.

Details on refunds for the remaining tour dates were not immediately available.
