A storm warning has been issued for southern parts of WA as more than 4,000 people are without power in Perth’s northern suburbs.
People in the Lower Southwest and Greater South are urged to take immediate action as there is a possibility of thunderstorms and rain showers overnight from Thursday to Friday.
Damaging winds with peak gusts of 100 km/h are expected to develop in the south-western coastal areas between Margaret River and Esperance.
“This will expand eastwards early Friday morning to include parts of the south coast and south east coast districts,” the Fire and Emergency Services Department says.
This came after 4,424 people were without power in the Perth suburbs of Innaloo, Woodlands, Scarborough and Doubleview on Thursday evening.
The unplanned outage was reported shortly after 8 p.m. and restoration is not expected until 1 a.m.
The Bureau of Meteorology said around 2.9mm of rain fell on the metropolitan area between 9am and 9pm on Thursday, with further rain and possible thunderstorms expected throughout the evening.
According to the office, there is even the possibility of “small hail.”
At around 9pm, firefighters were looking for downed power lines caused by a tree branch in Willagee, near Weber Street. The public is being asked to avoid the area.
