World News Paraguay fire coach Garnero after winless Copa America Blog

Paraguay sacked coach Daniel Garnero on Monday after their winless Copa America season.

Paraguay lost all of its group matches in the current tournament in the USA against Colombia 2-1, Brazil 4-1 and Costa Rica 2-1.

Garnero, a 54-year-old Argentine, has been in charge for less than a year and has played just 10 games. Since taking over from Guillermo Barros Schelotto in September, his team has scored just five goals and conceded 13.

The Paraguayan Football Association did not announce a successor.

The team’s next challenge will be in September’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers, when they face Uruguay away and Brazil at home. Paraguay is in seventh place in the ranking of ten teams after six qualifying matches.
