World News Opposition Leader Peter Dutton aims for victory in Queensland election Blog

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton is expected to mobilise the party faithful as the LNP pushes for victory in the upcoming Queensland election.

Mr Dutton will take the stage at the LNP’s annual party conference on Saturday to voice his support for Queensland politician David Crisafulli before voters go to the polls in October.

The approval came despite the state party’s opposition to Dutton’s nuclear energy plan, which calls for the construction of seven nuclear power plants if the coalition wins the federal election.

The opposition leader has so far refused to provide further details of the plan, which experts estimate would cost at least $116 billion.

Mr Crisafulli had previously stated that the nuclear proposal was not part of the Queensland LNP’s plan for the state.

The sensitive issue was conspicuously missing from the list of 173 topics to be discussed during the three-day congress.

Members will debate a range of issues, including declaring support for Israel and condemning anti-Semitic attacks at home, legalising pepper spray for self-defence and abolishing the eSafety Commission.

Nearly 1,000 party supporters are expected to attend the annual convention, the highest turnout in over a decade.

This comes as polls suggest the LNP will be victorious in the upcoming Queensland election.

Queensland-based Nationals leader David Littleproud will also address the crowd on Saturday.
