More than one in five Australians have experienced some form of sexual violence in adulthood, according to a study based on self-reports from more than 5,000 people.

The term “sexual violence” was used in the Australian Institute of Criminology report to describe a range of acts: one in 14 respondents admitted to having committed such acts in the past year, and 22.1 percent admitted to having done so at some point since they turned 18.
