World News NMFL round 10: Three Springs take down Coorow for top spot, Carnamah wins tight while Dongara dominates Blog

Victories over Three Springs and Carnamah-Perenjori on Saturday saw them overtake Coorow-Latham to first and second place in the North Midlands Football League standings ahead of the country’s off week.

Coorow started the week as league leaders, but fell to third place after losing to Three Springs 15.12 (102) to 5.14 (44).

Due to their recent form with four wins in a row, the Bombers now jump to first place in the rankings.

The match between Carnamah and Mingenew ended closely, with the home team winning 8.8 (56) to 7.8 (50).

Mingenew has only won two games this season, but in this encounter with few points they took the lead in the first quarter with 0.2 (2) to 1.2 (8).

The Kangaroos turned their fortunes around with four goals in the second period, but the Bulldogs only had a one-point lead going into the final period.

When the game was still open, the reigning league leaders Carnamah were able to prevent an upset.

Joseph Iaria and Jarrod Jupp each scored two goals in the win. Mingenews Clayton Fowler and Jack Roberts scored twice in the loss.

After an 81-point defeat in the fifth round, Dongara took revenge on Morawa with a victory of 20.13 (133) to 4.1 (25).

Ten players scored for the Eagles, with Brendan Davis scoring four goals and Roy McGuiness scoring three.

The league now has a weekend off due to Country Week and the North Midlands team will be looking to make an impression in Division Three.

The team will face Central Wheatbelt and Great Southern on Friday before playing Onshore Cup and Hills on Saturday. The top two teams in the division will face off in the playoff on Sunday.

Each club has at least three players who play in the Perth league; Three Springs has the strongest representation with nine players.
