Kate Winslet will tour Australia later this year to promote her new film, which follows the life of US war correspondent Lee Miller.
The Oscar winner stars in and produces the upcoming film about American photographer Lee Miller (Winslet), whose unique talent and unbridled tenacity gave us some of the most unforgettable images of the 20th century.
Miller gives up her career as a model and now works as a photographer to document the events of World War II for Vogue magazine.
Miller was determined to document the truth about the Nazi regime and, despite the difficulties faced by female correspondents, she managed to capture some of the most important images of the war. She paid a huge personal price for these images.
In October, Winslet will embark on an Australian promotional tour in support of Lee.
The 48-year-old is accompanied by his production partner Kate Solomon and Miller’s son Antony Penrose.
Lee also stars Andy Samberg as David E. Scherman, the photographer of Life Magazine, Alexander Skarsgård as English painter Roland Penrose, Marion Cotillard as Solange D’Ayen, fashion director of French Vogue, Josh O’Connor as a young journalist and Andrea Riseborough as Audrey Withers, editor of British Vogue.
The film took eight years to produce, and due to insufficient funding, Winslet at times paid the entire cast and crew’s salaries for two weeks.
Winslet said she was patronized by male executives when she tried to get funding for the film.
“The men who think you want and need their help are incredibly infuriating. I’ve even had a director say to me, ‘Look, you do my movie and I’ll get your little Lee financed…’ Little! Or potential male investors would say things like, ‘Tell me, why should I like this woman?'” she told Vogue.
During filming in 2022, the Titanic star slipped and injured his back on the first day of shooting, but managed to pull through.
“Lee,” a Sky Original, will premiere in UK and Irish cinemas from September 13.
It is the directorial debut of the acclaimed cinematographer Ellen Kuras.
