World News Jury to hear opening statements in Alec Baldwin trial Blog

Nearly three years after the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust, prosecutors in New Mexico are preparing to make opening arguments in the manslaughter trial of actor Alec Baldwin, a shooting that shocked Hollywood.

A jury of 12 people and four alternates – 11 women and five men selected Tuesday – in New Mexico will hear on Wednesday arguments from prosecutors who say Baldwin ignored safety precautions during filming of the low-budget movie before pointing a gun at Hutchins, cocking it and firing it during a rehearsal as they prepared a camera shot on a set southwest of Santa Fe.
