Captain Shubman Gill scored a fluent half-century to lead India to a 23-run victory over hosts Zimbabwe in the third T20 international in Harare.

This gave the tourists a 2-1 lead in the five-game series.

A young Indian side, without most of the players from their victorious World Cup team, elected to bat and reached 4-182 in their 20 overs.

Zimbabwe got off to a dismal start and fell short of expectations, reaching 6-159, thanks mainly to an unbeaten 65 off 49 balls from Dion Myers.

India’s innings was marked by an excellent 66 from 49 balls by opener Gill, before Ruturaj Gaikwad added an easy 49 from 28 balls to help the touring side to a respectable score.

Only home seamer Blessing Muzarabani (2-25) and Pakistan-born spinner Sikandar Raza (2-24) were able to stop the runs.

Zimbabwe slumped to 5-39 after seven overs, but an excellent sixth-wicket stand of 77 between Myers and Clive Madande (37 off 26 balls) gave them only the slightest chance of victory.

However, Indian spinner Washington Sundar managed 3-15 in four overs, including the important wicket of Madande, and the visitors finished with a comfortable win.
