An Ipswich woman who was allegedly murdered in an act of domestic violence will be remembered as a “light and joy of every gathering” as her loved ones raise funds to give her the “sending goodbye she deserves”.
Kierra-Lea Jensen was found dead in her Leichhardt home on Monday after police were called to the property to conduct a welfare check.
Police confirmed that the 28-year-old was found with numerous stab wounds.
Ms Jensen’s partner, 36-year-old Kitchel Shillingsworth, was charged with her murder after allegedly leading police on an hour-long chase through Ipswich.
Following her tragic death, her close friend Scott Midgley set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for her funeral.
“I know she would have fought for her life with all her might,” Midgley wrote.
“She did not deserve to have her life tragically taken”
Mr Midgley described Ms Jensen as “loud” and “wild” and reflected on her selfless and “caring” nature.
“Kierra-Lea organized our family gatherings and bought decorations and cakes and stepped in when others couldn’t contribute,” he said.
“Kierra took care of all of us when we needed it. Whether it was trips to the doctor or the hospital, she never left your side until she was sure you were OK.”
Mr Midgley said Mrs Jensen was one of six children and the first daughter born after four brothers.
“She was a sister, an aunt, a cousin and the best friend anyone could ask for,” he said.
In general, Mr Midgley called on everyone to support victims of domestic violence and to recognise the warning signs.
“Please step in and protect those who speak out, those who ask for help and those who are too afraid. Listen to the warning signs and don’t ignore any warning or sign,” he said.
Mr Midgley said Ms Jensen’s family would be grateful for any donations to the fund.
