Game review via Clear River Games:
Under defeat immerses the player in an alternate history where an all-out war has broken out across a fictional “continent” and players are fighting a nail-biter for survival against their mortal enemies, the “Commonwealth”.
The development of this new release is handled by City Connection, a valued partner of Clear River Games, under the supervision of Takehiro Eda and Zerodiv Fukushima Factory, known in the shooter community for their high-quality ports of classic games.
Originally released in Japanese arcades in 2005 with the arcade release of G.rev, Under defeat puts the player in control of a gun-laden helicopter as they maneuver through a semi-isometric playground under constant attack from enemy air and ground combat vehicles. Famous for its impressive 3D graphics and high-intensity gameplay, Under defeat now comes to modern console platforms with at least three game modes designed according to players' choice and controlled by G.rev.
Arcade Mode faithfully reproduces the original arcade experience, presenting the game in a 4:3 aspect ratio and pseudo-vertical display, for the cleanest possible presentation of the game. New Order mode adapts the game for modern displays, converting the adrenaline-filled shooting action to a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio, and New Order Mode+ brings a number of additional elements to the game. /bonus mechanic to help the player while shooting, bombing and outrunning enemy invaders. All modes give you access to four unique choices of helicopters to pilot into battle, each with different attributes and weapon systems. Additionally, this new release features newly added experience features for each mode, all three existing soundtrack options, and a new Amplified soundtrack by video game music veteran Shinji Hosoe (Ridge Racer series, Tekken series, etc.) and his company, Super Sweep.
