- Roguelike that combines platforming with deckbuilding
- The special sleep phase allows you to chart a path forward
- Use items and equipment to make your journey easier
Indie developer Indiana Kuffer has just announced the release of its latest game, Tower of Nod, a challenging roguelike journey that combines platforming with deckbuilding in a dark world. Add to that distinctive sleep-based controls and you're bound to embark on an adventure like never before.
In Tower of Nod, you play as a hero in a sort of purgatory, trapped between waking life and dreams. Your task is to climb an ever-changing tower full of traps, monsters and unexpected encounters. While this may seem daunting, the real challenge is something else entirely.
A twist comes in the form of Dream Phase, which you enter when your character falls asleep. Here you have the power to control falling blocks that will help you build your path forward. This sleep-based mechanic requires you to constantly switch between controlling your hero and building a path of ascent.
The roguelike nature means no two climbs are the same. The floors are procedurally generated and each contains a mix of hazards such as bombs, flamethrowers and rising lava, so you'll always have to be quick. Along the way you'll find new types of blocks, relics, and even allies, all of which will help you adapt to the tower's dangers and uncover its secrets.

Tactically using the objects around you will prove to be very advantageous. Springs can help you climb upwards, healing auras will come in handy while climbing, and balloons will help you float in difficult spots. Combine these items to create powerful synergies that maximize your chances, while keeping an eye out for precious relics that add new abilities to your arsenal.
