- The highly anticipated Pokémon Pocket Trading Card Game is a huge success
- In less than a week it has accumulated more than 10 million downloads across all platforms
- Pokémon TCG Pocket brings a digital version of the hugely popular mobile card game to your smartphone
It shouldn't exactly be shocking, but Pokémon are very popular. And the latest media spin-off to gain prestige from that popularity is the highly anticipated Pokémon TCG Pocket. Bringing the trading card game experience to your smartphone, it has already been downloaded over 10 million times across all platforms since its release in late October.
Again, this isn't exactly surprising. The original Pokémon TCG, along with the cartoon and video game series, is what took the franchise into the stratosphere. Fans have been eagerly waiting for a way to play and collect digitally that has all the same mechanics as the main card game.
It's no surprise that the Pokémon Pocket TCG has been well received. In our Pokémon Pocket TCG review, despite it being very early, we gave it a glowing review, praising the overall experience with the only criticism being the occasional long-winded animation.
Pokémania returns
So, is this a new dawn for Pokémon on mobile? I'd say so, considering that digital versions of card games have struggled to catch on in favor of adaptations or completely original mobile TCGs, it's refreshing to see something as popular as Pokémon manage to attract players so soon. However, at the same time, this could also be a honeymoon period that big franchises often enjoy at launch, and as with Niantic's Pokémon Go, we'll have to see how long-term support plays out to find out how it all fits together. combine.
In the meantime, if you're not worried about a cold reception and want to find out which great games are making waves, be sure to check out our reviews. Speaking of colder temperatures, the last release we took a look at was our review of Frostpunk: Beyond the Ice.
