We developed PlayStation 5 Pro with deeply engaged gamers and game creators in mind – many wanted a console that ran higher-definition graphics with smoother frame rates at 60 frames per second. We've achieved this on the PlayStation 5 Pro with several key performance features.
- Improved GPU – With PlayStation 5 Pro, we're upgrading to a GPU with 67% more Compute Units and 28% faster memory than the current PlayStation 5 console. Overall, this allows for up to 45% faster rendering for gaming and a smoother experience.
- Advanced Ray Tracing – We've added stronger ray tracing that allows for more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows beams to double and sometimes triple the speed of the current PlayStation 5 console.
- AI based upgrade – We're also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-based upscaling that uses machine learning-based technology to deliver super-sharp image clarity while adding extraordinary detail.
PlayStation 5 Pro provides gamers with stunning graphics at high frame rates. In the video presentation below, you can hear PlayStation 5 Pro lead architect Mark Cerny discuss the key innovations of PlayStation 5 Pro. This presentation takes an in-depth look at the key performance features that make the PlayStation 5 Pro truly special.
Other enhancements include PlayStation 5 Pro Game Boost, which applies to over 8,500 backwards compatible PlayStation 4 games playable on PlayStation 5 Pro. This feature can stabilize or improve the performance of supported PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games. Enhanced Picture Quality for PlayStation 4 games is also available to improve resolution in select PlayStation 4 games. The PlayStation 5 Pro will also launch with Wi-Fi 7, the latest wireless technology in areas that support the standard. VRR and 8K gaming are also supported.
It's humbling to see how game developers have embraced the latest technology from the PlayStation 5 Pro and several games will be patched with free software updates so that players can take advantage of the features of the PlayStation 5 Pro. These games can be identified by the PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced tag in their titles. Some of the games you can look forward to include blockbuster hits from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners, such as Alan Wake 2, Assassin's Creed Shadows, Demon's Souls, Dogma of the Dragon II, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, The legacy of Hogwarts, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Crew Motorfest, The First Generation, The Last of Us Part II Remasteredand more.
We've kept the look of the PlayStation 5 Pro in line with the overall PlayStation 5 family of products. You will notice that the height is the same size as the original PlayStation 5 and the width is the same size as the current PlayStation 5 model to provide higher performance features. Gamers can add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive or change console skins when available.
PlayStation 5 Pro fits perfectly into the PlayStation 5 family of products and is compatible with currently available PlayStation 5 accessories, including PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, Access controller, Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore. The user interface and network services will also remain the same as the PlayStation 5.
The PlayStation 5 Pro console will be available this holiday for a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of US$699.99, £699.99, €799.99 and ¥119,980 (tax included). It will include a 2 TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller, and a copy ASTRO'S GAME ROOM pre-installed with every PlayStation 5 Pro purchase. The PlayStation 5 Pro is available as a discless console, with the option to purchase the currently available disc drive for the PlayStation 5 separately.
The PlayStation 5 Pro will launch on November 7, 2024, and will be available at participating retailers and directly on PlayStation Direct. Pre-orders will begin on September 26, 2024.
