- Squid Game: Unleashed reportedly reached beta in Indie
- The multiplayer mini-game show is based on the hit series
- It will join the Netflix Games catalog later this year.
Squid Game: Unleashed, the multiplayer game based on the hit Netflix drama series, has reportedly hit beta in India, according to recent social media activity and a quick search by our editors. This would be the first time the game has been made available to the public since it was revealed.
Created by director Hwang-Don Hyuk, Squid Game, which revolves around a secret underground tournament where regular people play deadly versions of children’s playground games for a huge cash prize, has been one of Netflix’s biggest hits in recent memory. So it’s no surprise that they’re bringing a gaming version of the series to their service.
The announcement trailer, which you can watch below, appears to feature a very Fall Guys-like mix of obstacle course gameplay and other familiar moments from the series, like the Red Light, Green Light game. It’s a pretty big gamble for Netflix, especially since their gaming service has had a pretty low profile.
I'm as funny as a clown, how do I entertain you?
There's bound to be some comments somewhere about the irony of turning a pretty dystopian series into a video game, I imagine. And truth be told, I'm sure some people might really dig the commodification or gamification or whatever, but for now I think most of us are watching closely to see whether or not this is going to be the game that really puts Netflix's interactive catalog on the map.
