Reinterpretation of one of the best gaming chairs

The Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 is one of the most well-known gaming chairs on the market and in our review we named it one of the best on the market. Secretlab has now redesigned the same chair and launched the Secretlab Titan Evo NanoGen Edition in both a Pure Black and a Pure White version.

The main difference between the Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 and the NanoGen Edition is that the NanoGen Edition focuses on the combination of support and softness and manages it perfectly. As someone who has been using the original Titan Evo since my review, the NanoGen version of the same chair is significantly more comfortable while still providing support just like the original. It also comes with the Secretlab PlushCell memory foam armrests, which I also loved on my previous Titan Evo.

Secretlab also sent along the “Ergonomic Recliner Add-On,” which supports both the original Titan Evo and the NanoGen Edition. It's a great addition to my chair and I recommend purchasing it as an add-on if you want additional support.

About this review: Secretlab sent me the Secretlab Titan Evo NanoGen Edition for this test. The company had no influence on the content.

Even better than before

Secretlab Titan Evo NanoGen 2

The Secretlab Titan Evo NanoGen comes in a large, flat-packed box with easy-to-follow assembly instructions. It took me about half an hour alone and all the tools in the box were enough to assemble it. The delivery includes a Secretlab screwdriver and an Allen key. Although I would definitely recommend building it with a friend or family member if you can get the help, you can also easily build this chair yourself. I would just make sure you have plenty of space to install it.

I received the regular size chair and it fits me perfectly. It's comfortable to sit in for long periods of time, and since I spend most of my day in a chair between work and play, for me it's an improvement over the original Titan Evo. I wouldn't buy this chair if you already own a regular Titan Evo, but if you've been eyeing a Secretlab chair for a while, now might be the time to pounce on one.

This chair carries the usual racing chair style while improving on several aspects of this popular design, and in my opinion it hits the spot. It's a hybrid synthetic leather that feels soft and you'll feel it sink in even when you sit down up to a certain point. It doesn't lack support, but it's soft and comfortable while still providing back support. The lumbar support is still one of the weaker aspects of this chair, but again, that's because I've previously used a Herman Miller Aeron. It feels soft and is squishy.

To adjust the lumbar support, there are two wheels on either side of the chair, one of which moves it up and down and the other allows you to adjust the support to fill the curve of your spine. This part in particular feels a bit lacking, but I can say it's there, it just doesn't fit me perfectly.

However, one of the best improvements to the NanoGen edition of this chair is that the pillow has been significantly improved. It now holds firmly and is much harder to accidentally tear off, which was an issue I had with the original Titan Evo. The chair can be reclined up to 165 degrees and the ergonomic reclining attachment ensures that you can fully sit back and relax.

This is an incredibly comfortable chair, but the original Titan Evo is not uncomfortable when both are next to each other. This is simply a really soft, really comfortable, really supportive chair that positions itself as the best chair Secretlab has made to date.

What I don't like about the Secretlab Titan Evo NanoGen

To be honest, there is very little

As I mentioned in my Titan Evo 2022 review, I have concerns about the chair's ability to maintain its appearance over time. I still haven't had any problems with my Titan Evo 2022 and friends of mine who have the same chair haven't had any problems either. As for the Titan Evo NanoGen, I haven't had any problems either and it has maintained its appearance and quality so far in the last two weeks since I received it.

Additionally, our senior PC hardware editor Rich Edmonds has owned a Secretlab chair for four years and he said that aside from some minor flaking on one of the armrests, he shows no signs of wear on his chair. While there are users who clearly have problems with their chairs, it is true that they also require a higher level of care than other chairs.

This is a chair that needs to be taken care of, but that's to be expected with such a large investment, and that goes for pretty much all high-end chairs.

Should you buy the Secretlab Titan Evo NanoGen?

You should buy the Secretlab Titan Evo NanoGen if:

  • You need a new chair and want a comfortable gaming chair
  • You don't have to worry about the costs
  • You want an adjustable chair

You should not buy the Secretlab Titan Evo NanoGen if:

  • You already have the Titan Evo 2022
  • You have concerns about the longevity of the chair
  • You want to save money

One of the best improvements to this chair for me was the improved magnetism of the cushion. It stays in place and is very difficult to tear off, unlike its predecessor. It's also an incredibly comfortable chair with significant improvements over its predecessor. So if you've been on the fence about a chair for a while, now might be your chance to jump in and get one. However, this chair costs $800, which is quite a hefty sum if you don't even think about add-ons like the ergonomic recliner.

However, there is no denying that it is still an expensive chair and you can buy something like a used Herman Miller Aeron for the same price. This chair is Only But for work. You can't lean back in the same way, and you have to sit in a very specific way to actually sit in it, which forces you to have good posture. If you are unsure about your posture, the Secretlab Titan Evo NanoGen may not be the best solution for you as you must choose to sit in it correctly to reap the benefits.

Additionally, this chair is not suitable for vegans, but Secretlab assures that it is a cruelty-free product and has a lower carbon footprint than real animal leather. There's a lot to love about this chair, and if you're looking for a new one and have some money to spend then it might be worth taking a look at.

The Secretlab Ergonomic Recliner Add-On is a great buy if you like to recline

It's also easy to add

When you're lying in your chair, do you ever wish you had a place to rest your legs? That is the goal of the ergonomic recliner attachment. It easily attaches to the bottom of your chair and has a lever you can lift to release it.

The only problem is that it's a pretty expensive add-on, costing $200 for the standard version. However, it is praised for being easy to install as no tools were required and it took me about five minutes to install it on my Titan Evo 2022. Switching to the Titan Evo NanoGen was also fairly easy, only taking about five minutes to remove and place on the new chair.

Once attached it is completely stable and the plush part is very similar to the material Secretlab uses for their head pads. With a gas piston, it can be fixed in any position, so you don't have to rely on fixing it in a few set positions. The only downside is that it doesn't match other variants of Secretlab chairs, apart from the black or darker chairs.

The “Ergonomic Recliner Add-On” significantly increases the size of your chair if you want to purchase one. However, if you expect to have to sit back a lot, it's definitely worth it.
