- Explore Erangel Ruins in PUBG Mobile's Latest Update
- The Play for Green campaign challenges players to explore a version of the map affected by climate change.
- There are also new charity initiatives and a World of Wonder map contest!
Battle royale game PUBG Mobile is set to introduce a brand-new set of maps to raise awareness about climate change. Launching as part of Playing for the Planet’s Green Game Jam, the Play for Green campaign lets players convert their in-game movements into tangible, real-world support for climate change charities with the Run for Green event, which will also offer exclusive digital rewards.
You’ll be able to explore the Erangel Ruins in two new maps, Sandstorm and Exploration, which showcase how climate change has transformed this once verdant battlefield into a desolate wasteland. While the former is a typical battle royale scenario where you must collect essential health packs while battling other players, the latter takes you on a journey to explore the effects of climate change.
And it’s not just limited to the main game, as you’ll also see new items arrive in World of Wonder like the endangered California Redwood and Giant Baobab trees. Additionally, the new World Of Wonder Green Creative Contest will challenge players to use these items to create their own maps using templates from the Erangel Ruins to compete for a major prize.
In search of green
While I would argue that there is an element of irony in a game that focuses on killing your fellow man while helping raise awareness about climate change, it does show how widespread the PUBG Mobile platform has become. Especially since we’ve only recently seen major competitor Fortnite become more widely available on mobile devices.
And it’s not just the new map: PUBG Mobile will also be hosting challenges on its social channels, as well as offering a new Preservation Garden for players’ homes that are home to endangered trees.
