It's big news in the world of video game necromancy, as PUBG Mobile publisher Krafton has announced that it has acquired Tango Gameworks, the studio behind the popular rhythm game Hi-Fi Rush. The deal includes not only the developer's name and current team, but also the Hi-Fi Rush IP as a whole.

It comes after Tango Gameworks was set to be shut down by Microsoft, despite the success of Hi-Fi Rush. The studio, which was also behind the Evil Within duology, will now persist with Krafton planning to create more games capitalizing on the popularity of Hi-Fi Rush.

Of course, it may have jumped from the frying pan into the metaphorical fire, with some of Krafton’s console titles like Callisto Protocol being criticized by developers for being thrown out the metaphorical door. Of course, with multiple factors like Covid and lack of communication playing a part, Tango Gameworks may be on the road to recovery now.

Back from the afterlife, on your cell phone?

Of course, we wouldn't be us if we didn't at least speculate that Hi-Fi Rush will come to mobile in some form. Not a port (at least, probably), but we'd be surprised if Krafton's recent mobile efforts didn't result in some sort of spin-off or perhaps a crossover appearance.

In the meantime, however, if Tango Gameworks thrives under Krafton's leadership, it could end up making a fool of itself for Microsoft, for a developer they seemed to consider expendable, rather than growing under the watchful eye of another owner.
