Placid Duck Simulator is exactly what it says on the tin, soft launching on Netflix

  • Placid Plastic Duck Simulator is the latest release from Netflix Games for mobile devices
  • Soft launching in the Philippines, according to some reports, it does exactly what it promises
  • Observe your plastic ducks at rest and collect unique results

As spotted by the folks over at TouchArcade, Netflix Games has apparently soft-launched a new title (albeit only in the Philippines). And their latest acquisition is the aptly named Placid Plastic Duck Simulator, where you can watch a variety of adorable plastic ducks peacefully float around a pool.

Now, you could be forgiven for watching Placid Plastic Duck Simulator and expecting the other shoe to drop. Because with the grainy VHS filter and such a seemingly bare-bones core concept, surely there must be some kind of weird meta-horror angle here?

Well, from everything I could find, no, that's the game. However, for some reason, whether it's the relaxing atmosphere or the many different ducks and secret achievements to discover, Placid Plastic Duck Simulator has gotten a very desirable rating, Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam.

I am

They are ducks all the way through

Now, I have to admit that if Placid Plastic Duck Simulator went global, it would be very interesting. Because it shows that Netflix is still willing to take risks with, let's say, “experimental” games. Because when they're trying to attract an audience with games based on shows like Too Hot to Handle, the idea of a plastic duck simulator game might seem totally counterintuitive.

Not that I’m complaining. If Netflix Games can balance crowd-pleasing additions with unique titles like Placid Plastic Duck Simulator, I’d call that a win-win for gamers and streaming platforms.
