Words are awesome. Yep, that’s all I have. Well, aside from the attempt at a clever opening, Phantolex is a newly released game on iOS that takes a little-known word puzzle and puts it in the palm of your hand. Test your wits and face a ghost opponent as you try to piece together words.

How does Phantolex or the game it’s based on, Ghost, work? Well, you have a limited number of letters and you have to place them. When you do, your opponent places his letters around them. Your challenge is to create a legitimate, dictionary-defined word and win points. Think your opponent is bluffing and writing nonsense? Call him out! But if he manages to write something real, he wins.

It's an intriguing and immediately interesting premise. Just watch our YouTube guru Scott's coverage of the game below, and if you're not immediately drawn in (whether it's to see what he comes up with or to scream “Spell Y! Spell Y!”) I don't know how else to convince you.

Word games are something that, even though I'm not usually a fan of puzzle games, I find immediately interesting. Unfortunately, being an Android gamer, I won't have the chance to get my hands on Phantolex, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this game will be a hit, so I can get my hands on it soon.
