  • Monster Hunter Now's Driftsmelting Bonanza Is Just Around the Corner
  • Get unique stones and more rewards to increase the quality of your equipment
  • Face monsters with a higher chance of appearing

Monster Hunter Now, Niantic’s popular creature-slaying game, is hosting another small event with big rewards. The Driftsmelting Bonanza, kicking off on August 19, will feature rewards for those who driftsmelt during that time. What is it? What is driftsmelting? Well, I’m glad you asked.

Simply put, driftsmelting lets you attach new abilities to gear using driftstones. You get them by killing monsters, then use driftsmelting to attach them, usually by walking a significant distance (of course, there's always the insta-smelt option).

As for the Driftsmelting Bonanza, this event promises to offer both unique driftstones and more common encounters with monsters like Banbaro and Black Diablos, who will exclusively drop these mysterious and unique driftstones. You’ll also be able to fuse driftstones at a reduced walking speed, meaning an easier time for those of you with tired feet.

Drift, drift, everywhere, but not enough to smell

The decision to run smaller events like this and the recently approved Water Element Questline, we believe, is partly attributable to Niantic’s attempt to regain player goodwill and encourage them to get out and about. Given that the main selling point of Niantic’s AR games is outdoor fun and community, it’s no surprise that they’d want to encourage that.

However, for regular players, this definitely means that there are a lot of great rewards up for grabs.
