Microsoft fixes countless annoying problems on Surface devices

Have you noticed an annoying issue while using your Surface device? If so, there's a good chance Microsoft just released a fix for it. The Redmond giant has spent some time releasing patches for three of its Surface devices, and they seem worth downloading if you've noticed strange behavior on your own laptops.

Microsoft releases fixes for Surface Pro 8, Pro X and Laptop 6

First up, we have the fixes for the Surface Pro 8. The system had some really bad issues when using a Slim Pen, the Surface Dock 2, or the device's USB-C ports. Here are all the interesting details:

  • Fixes an issue that caused the taskbar to flicker and the device to occasionally freeze when using a slim pen.
  • Fixes an issue with screen flickering or flashing when the device is connected to Surface Dock 2.
  • Fixes an issue that prevented the device from using USB-C functionality after system boot.
  • Improves the device's ability to connect to other devices via USB-C to enable direct peer-to-peer communication.

Next up, we have the Surface Pro X. If you've noticed that your camera is acting up at inopportune moments, the latest system update should fix the problem. Additionally, if you've noticed that your keyboard is causing weird issues in the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) or Windows Preinstallation Environment (WinPE), the update should fix that bug as well.

The new patch for the Surface Laptop 6 is finally here. It turns out that the laptop was keeping its fans running unnecessarily, and this patch should calm them down again. Also, the system will be more mindful of its internal temperature when you connect it to an external monitor.

If you want to update your Surface device, the steps are the same regardless of the model you have. Simply open Windows Update and download any pending updates for your device.
