■ Version 1.6 Patch Notes
Game Improvements
We've implemented additional gameplay tweaks derived from community feedback and extensive playtesting. We are pleased to see our Steam “Recent Review” score rise, reflecting the positive impact of these ongoing improvements, and we are determined to continue this journey with your valuable input.
Highlights include:
- Mob Density – Based on your feedback, we've improved certain mob encounters to create a smoother, more effective combat experience by isolating patterns to prevent mob stacking. Returning players may find it worth starting again, as we've added a few new surprises along the way! (The original enemy distribution and density can still be accessed via NG+ modifiers.)
- Ranged Enemies – We've adjusted the perception of certain ranged units to fix situations that felt unfair or unrealistic.
- Jumping – The platforming in Pilgrim's Perch has been improved with improved indicators, making jumps clearer and navigation smoother.
- Player-Versus-Player Scaling – Rebalanced the scaling mechanics to improve skill-based gameplay in PvP, especially where magic weapons and spells are concerned. These fixes only apply to player vs. player, so players vs. environment players can continue with their current build unaffected.
- Offensive displacement – Some weapon attacks received minor adjustments to reduce displacement, providing a greater sense of control while maintaining effectiveness and supporting your playstyle.
Improved Tutorial, Onboarding and Start-Up Experience
We've taken steps to make the onboarding experience even richer for new players Lords of the Fallenbased on feedback from our veteran Apprentices. We want every new player to feel empowered on their journey, and we understand that some early tutorials can present a steep learning curve. Here's what's new:
- Improved Lighting in the Tainted Tomb – Improved lighting and visual tweaks make this introductory tutorial area clearer and easier to navigate.
- Gradual Umbral Tutorialization – Core abilities such as soulflay and syphoning now have dedicated tutorial areas in Redcopse, allowing new players to more gradually engage with each feature later on.
- A Simplified First Jump Guide – We've improved the jump guide to be more accessible (raise your hands in the comments if you cleared it on the first try!).
- Lightreaper Boss Adjustment in NG0 – To clarify the purposeful design of this encounter, we removed the Lightreaper boss fight from the tutorial area for NG0 players. Rest assured: Lightreaper is still lurking in Mournstead and will make a surprise return in NG+.
A more effective Umbral realm for explorers
A parallel realm intertwined with the living world of Axiom is accessible at any point in the game and offers a vast world of alternate paths, hidden treasures, and secrets. We know how much you enjoyed exploring Mournstead, and many of you wanted a more exploration-friendly Umbral realm. Taking this idea, we made some tweaks to enhance its immersive vibe while maintaining its mysterious, challenging nature.
While Umbral remains an intentional enemy, we've made adjustments to its sounds, visuals, and enemy spawn curve. Threads (Umbral natives) are now slower to detect your presence, giving you valuable time to explore before the realm's pursuit intensifies. Eventually, the Red Shadow will appear and force you to make a decision: run or engage in an epic battle.
These changes make the Umbral more suitable for exploration while maintaining its terrifying intensity and challenging atmosphere:
- Dynamic ambient sound – The initial entry into the Umbral is now accompanied by subtler soundscapes, increasing in intensity as you stay longer, reach a crescendo without finding a way out, or risk facing the Crimson Reaper.
- Adjusted Enemy Spawn curve – Enemy spawns are now better paced for a smoother, gradual build of tension.
- Increased latency for Scarlet Shadow – Now you'll have more time to explore before the Red Shadow shows up.
- Reduced Vignette Effect – Toned down the vignetting effect to improve visibility when exploring the Umbral based on player feedback.
- More transparent Umbral Eggs – Added special VFX to eggs to spawn Umbral natives as we noticed that some players were having trouble distinguishing between active and inactive ones.
These updates create a richer exploration experience within the Umbral, preserving its dark charm and heightening the tension for intrepid adventurers.
Performance Improvements
We've made additional performance improvements to a number of more graphically demanding areas of the game, optimizing the experience for players with lower-end PCs.
