- Kakao Games is ready to produce a new AAA multiplatform MMORPG
- It will be published by Lionheart Studio and will be revealed at G-Star in Korea this month
- The game, codenamed “Project Q”, is inspired by the Norse saga Edda
Fans of Kakao Games and their previous hits like Guardian Tales and Eversoul will be thrilled to learn that the developer has something big up its sleeve. As announced on LinkedIn (where All exciting news is coming) the studio has a new multiplatform MMORPG in the works for mobile devices and PC. It will be published by Lionheart Studio and will be revealed for the first time at the G-Star event in Korea later this month.
So what do we know about this mysterious new release, codenamed “Project Q”? Well, first we know that it will be a cross-platform game for mobile and PC, with crossplay from the start, of course. But it also takes inspiration from an unusual source, presumably based heavily on the Norse mythological cycle, the Edda.
Now, I won't go into the actual story of the Edda, mainly because it is WELL beyond our mandate. But as you might imagine, it's a collection of famous Norse and Viking poems and stories that pretty much inform a wide range of what we know about modern Viking mythology.
Vikings ahoy(?)
So will it be an overwhelming Nordic dish? Eh, that's probably not the case, because it's said to be simply “inspired” by the Edda, and we all know how vague inspiration can be when it comes to games (looking at you, Dante's Inferno). However, regardless of the AAA quality on offer and the talent behind it, they make this upcoming launch an exciting prospect.

And if you do, you might spot a certain game called Eversoul in there (or not, you'll have to read to find out). But be sure to check out Kakao Games other great success and learn more about pixel art and game design in our interview!
