  • Great price range
  • Bright colors in the game
  • Lots of camera options

When it comes to mid-range Android phones, we always have a few of them lying around the house. At first glance, the HTC U24 Pro is affordable, slim, and sleek looking. It’s not a gamer-focused phone with additional gaming features, but it’s a phone worth considering for everyday use. I’ll be reviewing this phone in terms of casual gaming and everyday mobile usage.

The phone itself

Front view of the HTC U24 Pro

Specs-wise, this is where I call the phone mid-range; Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor powers this phone, which sits comfortably at the high end of that category.

It has a slightly curved screen at the edges, which I find inconvenient with some games, as the buttons themselves often curve at the edges, making them harder to tap or slightly cut off visually. This may just be personal preference: I also have a hard time finding cases that work well with the curved edge, and I would never buy a phone without a case.

The HTC U24 Pro has a bright and vibrant 6.8-inch OLED display with fantastic backlighting. The colors really pop when gaming and everything looks stunning.

By default, the phone has this weird vibration, which feels like an electric blade, that seems to sync with quite a few games. This isn't a great feature, I found it quite strange and surprising when it vibrated, but maybe that's because I'm not used to this sort of thing in the games I play. It's clearly something that can be turned off and I expect most people would!

Set up

Transferring data from an Android phone to the HTC U24 Pro was quick and painless. After logging into Wi-Fi, I was able to simply use the included USB-C to USB-C cable to connect the phone to my old phone, transferring all of my data in no time. The phone also charges with a USB-C cable, so it’s nice and easy.

You can password protect your phone with a digit-based code or set up a fingerprint to scan every time you want to access the device. It also has room for two SIM cards inside the phone, if that's something you need.

Phone cameras

HTC U24 Pro Rear Camera

I think phone cameras are only as important as how they work. The front camera has a default beauty slider added to your selfies, which I always find gross. For a freckle-faced human like me, it makes my entire face one color and smooth, which makes me look like a weird doll. You can easily turn this setting down or turn it off completely, which is a good thing. Otherwise, the selfie camera is nice and takes nice photos!

The rear camera, or should I say cameras, since there are three on the front that take high-quality photos, are lovely. There is a Pro setting on the bottom bar, which gives you all sorts of stats about the photo you are taking. This can be useful if you like taking photos. There is also an AI feature, which allows your phone to correct photos (adding smiling people if not everyone is smiling at the camera, for example) which can help improve your photos.
