Artist Komitsu has announced the official launch of Five Years Old Memories, a charming interactive narrative that takes you back to the good old days of childhood on your iPad. The short but sweet experience takes you on a trip down memory lane as you relive the days of your youth through a hand-drawn aesthetic and low-pressure gameplay.
As the title suggests, Five Years Old Memories lets you go back in time to when you were five years old through real interviews with real people. The developer took the time to talk to family and friends and based the game’s scenes on their own experiences as a child, inviting you to immerse yourself in a “sensory experience” where you can drag and drop your way through hand-drawn scenes.
“This is an interactive omnibus animation based on interviews with my friends about their memories from the age of about five, based on their personal sensory memories and episodes,” says Komitsu.
The game is only 15-20 minutes long and will set you back $2.99 per play. Interview, animation, and design credits go to Komitsu, with Shoto Hayakawa as the engineer and Natsumi Nogawa as the music maestro. The game was created as part of the Artists-in-Residence Online program, which is, in turn, organized by the NTT InterCommunication Center.
