- The Epic Games Store launch on iOS may be even closer than we expect
- It should be coming to mobile devices later this year, after the final notarization has been submitted.
- The launch could prove to be a snub for Apple
The Epic Games Store for iOS has reached perhaps its last major milestone before launch, as it and a number of Epic Games titles have gone through final notarization (approval). The process is basically a rubber stamp, as far as we can tell, and the Epic Games editorial team is already excited about the imminent launch of the Epic Games Store.
“Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe, and the Epic Games Store have all been submitted to Apple for final notarization. Stay tuned for the Epic Games Store launch on iOS in Europe soon!” that's what the statement says.
Assuming all goes well, which is far from guaranteed, we could expect the official launch of the EU Epic Games Store on iOS before the end of the year. This would be a huge egg in the face for Apple after years of feuding with Epic over their initial rejection of the 30% transaction fee that made the iOS App Store somewhat infamous.
Far from so simple
Of course, there’s more to Apple’s plate than these authentications. The platform holder recently came under fire for apparently forcing creator support site Patreon to switch to its own iOS payment systems, imposing the dreaded 30% transaction fee.
If Epic Games on iOS moves forward and proves to be more popular than the App Store, it could be the beginning of the end of Apple's monopoly on its devices.
