El Paso, Elsewhere is your Max Payne/John Constantine crossover, coming soon to iOS

  • El Paso, Somewhere, takes you miles beneath the desert
  • Fight vampires, werewolves and worse as you fight to save innocent lives
  • A slow-motion mashup of David Lynch, John Carpenter and John Woo that's already garnering attention is coming to iOS

Somewhere in the city of El Paso, Texas, an average motel has suddenly gained 46 additional floors, leading underground. And it’s your job to rid them of all the fallen angels, werewolves, and worse that have decided to take up residence there. Welcome to El Paso, somewhere.

Mixing Max Payne and John Constantine in a blender sounds like you’ll get a slow-motion third-person shooter that made its mark on PC a few years ago. And now you’ll soon be able to play El Paso, Somewhere on an iOS device near you, as the game is set to hit the App Store on September 17.

A neo-noir story, promising gameplay mechanics, hordes of enemies to fight, and varied environments to explore all make for a promising game. And since El Paso, Somewhere has already made its mark on consoles and PC, I can’t wait to see it come to mobile devices.

I am

A bit like playing Marmite?

El Paso, Somewhere promises to be an interesting game if nothing else, judging by the critical response. However, some point out that this is unashamedly a game for an audience somewhere between David Lynch and John Woo, so don't expect the broad, bland appeal of something like Call of Duty or even the aforementioned Max Payne.

But if your taste in shooters is surreal and spooky, yet flashy, El Paso, Somewhere might be the shooter you've been waiting for.

In the meantime, while you wait for El Paso, Somewhere to launch, you can always try out some of the awesome titles we’ve ranked in our list of the best mobile games of 2024 (so far).

And if you want some specific choices, then the terrifying side-scrolling platformer Spooky Pixel Hero might be the one for you, with enough surrealism and meta-horror to keep you up at night.
