Drop Troop is an indie and mobile version of the Helldivers 2 format, coming soon

  • Drop Troop is a one-handed shooter where you drop from orbit into hostile territory.
  • Complete objectives, kill enemies and come out unscathed and whole.
  • Can you guess what he draws inspiration from?

Helldivers 2 was one of the big hits of 2024, and for good reason. Four-player co-op has been getting boring for a while, and aside from a few long-running success stories like Deep Rock Galactic, few have stood out. But have you ever wanted that adrenaline rush of jumping in and blowing up aliens before escaping without having to boot to desktop? Well, that’s where upcoming shooter Drop Troop comes in.

It doesn't take much more than a quick glance to see that Drop Troop wears its inspiration on its sleeve. You drop from orbit into a hostile location, complete objectives, and then try to escape with your limbs intact. What it offers is a throwback, retro take on the concept, with some interesting Desert Strike vibes.

But, mechanically, how does it work? Well, it’s a one-handed shooter, similar to those in Survivors, where your character will start shooting enemies on his own, while you just have to direct them. You can get power-ups to help you, different types of armor, and different weapons, all with unique abilities. Check out the trailer below!

Once…

It occurs to us that once upon a time a game like Drop Troop would have been a mobile spin-off of the main game (e.g. something like Helldivers 2), and it's really interesting to see how much of the real experience has been translated so faithfully, despite so many limitations.
