Think your job sucks? It could be worse—you could be an underpaid police detective investigating chronic supernatural crimes in a seedy city already filled with more than enough mundane lawlessness. Or maybe you think that sounds pretty cool, actually, in which case today’s topic might be right up your alley, as Spooky Doorway’s The Darkside Detective is coming to mobile devices on the iOS App Store and Google Play.
Set in the town of Twin Lakes, you are Detective McQueen, a member of the Darkside Division, a chronically underfunded and understaffed division. Your job is to investigate mysterious, often supernatural, occurrences related to the literal “dark side” of the town, as Twin Lakes is in fact connected to a supernatural mirror world of itself.
To help you out, you have your wits, your brains, and your partner, Agent Dooley. You’ll need all three to solve a series of cases in the town of Twin Lakes. And if you think this all smacks of shows like Twin Peaks or X-Files, you’d be right, because Darkside Detective draws on a huge breadth of inspiration, fitting it neatly into a pixellated, lavishly rendered package.
On the dark side
The Darkside Detective and its sequel, A Fumble in the Dark, are both available separately on Google Play and the App Store. Courtesy of porting studio Akupara Games, these two titles feature multiple levels (or “micro-cases”) and a healthy dose of humor to counteract the spooky atmosphere. So pick them up now and start solving those cases, detective!
