Construction Simulator 4 Guide: Start Your Journey to Building a Workers' Empire

1

Preparing for the long road ahead

The first step is, of course, setting up the game. You’ll need to create your character, which includes choosing your appearance, favorite color, and company name, which is pretty fun. You can also change the length of the business cycle, but to start with, you should leave it at 90 minutes until you get the hang of it.

There are a few more options to play around with once you get used to everything. You can enable Advanced Traffic Rules, which will get you a ticket if you violate the road rules. If you really want to go big, you can set the hydraulic cars to ISO mode for a more realistic feel, but this will make your first run tricky, so keep Violations off and Controls on Arcade for now.

2

Never skip tutorials

After choosing your settings, you will meet Happe who will show you how the game works, which brings us to our second tip: pay attention to the tutorial. An obvious one, yes, but one that too many people skip. You will learn how to drive, load your truck, use the map and all the other essential tools.

Use this time to learn the routes to useful places like the gravel pit and the sawmill, in case you want to avoid paying for fast travel. Funds will be important at the beginning, so it is worth driving manually to the places where you can. After the tutorial, you will be put in charge of your own company, and then the real fun can begin.

3

Practice with some general contracts

When you enter the actual game, you will have the opportunity to choose your path. In the Work section, there are two options: the campaign stages that will unlock new districts and additional bases, and the general contracts that you can complete at random. You will have to familiarize yourself with the latter.

This is because most of the campaign jobs will require machine types at certain ranks. To access them, you will need two things: experience and money. You will unlock higher-level machines in the shop by reaching a minimum experience level, so get to work. After unlocking the machines, however, you will be faced with the next choice.

The choice to rent or buy follows us wherever we go

You have two options when you take your machines: rent them or buy them. If you buy your machines outright, you have the advantage of keeping them indefinitely, but you will have to pay monthly maintenance costs based on how much they wear out. You can store the machines in your shed to prevent them from wearing out, and they will also be repaired for free, so keep your fleet stored when you don't need them.

The next option is renting, which is pretty self-explanatory. The upside is that the machines don’t wear out, so you don’t have to worry about repairs and maintenance. The downside though is that you are charged per minute for how long you keep them. To keep costs down, make sure you finish the job with them quickly and return them right away. To start off, to keep costs down, you will mostly be renting to keep costs down, and managing your finances is very important, as you will also need to purchase building materials for each job. So before you take on a job, make sure you have the funds for both the machines and the materials.

5

Get some additional bonuses

As you play, complete contracts, and level up, you will start to earn skill points. So, here’s another obvious tip: spend your skill points. These will help you earn money and experience, vehicle proficiency, and earthmoving or transport skills. The best place to start your first run is with the extra money and experience skills, just for that extra boost.

Another way to earn extra money and experience, among other perks, is to chase down all the players’ kryptonite; achievements. By going on journeys, discovering new areas, completing jobs, or simply going off the beaten path and finding them in the wilderness, you’ll earn medals and achievements, which offer the rewards mentioned above, plus a few more perks. So, it’s worth putting your achievement hunter head on.

After a few jobs, you'll be ready to challenge yourself more with traffic violations and other options, but for your beginner racing, stick to this guide and you'll be fine. Keep an eye on your finances and don't bite off more than you can chew, and soon you'll be the biggest construction company in the virtual world.
