Minecraft is one of the most popular games of all time and should be considered one of the best games on the Steam Deck. It is a game that Days Months of your life before you know it, being able to sit back with your Steam Deck and comfortably navigate the blocky world just makes sense.
Both Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED run on the SteamOS platform based on Arch Linux, which gives you a lot of flexibility when installing custom software. While there is no native way to Minecraft: Bedrock (for Windows) Edition to the standard Steam Deck — like by browsing the Steam Store and downloading like you would with most other games — you're not entirely out of luck. You could install Windows on Steam Deck and use the Xbox app, but there's a much easier way to do this.
We already have instructions for installation Minecraft: Java on the Steam Deck, but I'm here to show you how to Minecraft: Bedrock, for those of you who can't live without the multi-device version of the game.
What you need to install Minecraft: Bedrock on Steam Deck
- Minecraft for Android: This version of the game can be purchased from the Google Play Store for about $7. It is compatible with Minecraft: Bedrock runs on any other platform and allows you to visit your friends' realms and access your favorite skins and texture packs from the in-house marketplace. Make sure you use the same Google account you use to play on the Steam Deck.
- Internet connection: You need an Internet connection to download the Linux-based Minecraft: Bedrock Launcher on the Steam Deck, as well as Minecraft: Bedrock itself via the launcher.
- (Optional) Mouse and keyboard: I had no problems installing and playing Minecraft: Bedrock on Steam Deck without a keyboard and mouse, but the accessories can certainly make your life a little easier.
How to install Minecraft: Bedrock on Steam Deck
Since there is no native option, we have to use emulation
Around the Minecraft: In order to run Bedrock Edition on your Steam Deck, we first need to switch to desktop mode.
- Press the steam button on your Steam Deck.
- Select the Performance option from the on-screen menu.
- Choose Switch to desktop from the on-screen menu. Allow your Steam Deck to load into Desktop Mode before continuing.
- Click on the Discover icon in the lower left corner of the screen. It looks like a Gift bag.
- Seek for the term Minecraft Bedrock in the upper left field of the window.
- Double-click the Minecraft Bedrock Thrower Option.
- Click Install in the upper right corner of the window. Wait until the download and installation are complete before continuing.
- Click start in the upper right corner of the window.
- Click Continue in the Linux Minecraft Launcher Window.
- Click Sign in with Google.
- Login with the same Google Account credentials you used when purchasing Minecraft from the Google Play Store.
- Click on the Edit Button next to the profile Dropdown menu. It looks like a pencil.
- Check the box Crate next to Window size.
- Change the resolution to 1280×800 to adjust the native resolution of the Steam Deck and click Save.
- Click Download and play. Allow Minecraft to complete the download before continuing.
You can Play to enjoy Minecraft: Bedrock Edition in Steam Deck's desktop mode, but you can also add it as a non-Steam game to access in Gaming Mode.
How to add Minecraft: Bedrock Launcher for Steam
The Steam Deck is best in gaming mode
Now that you have downloaded Minecraft: Bedrock and its launcher. You can add the launcher as a non-Steam game to access it from Steam Deck's Gaming Mode.
- start steam In Desktop mode.
- Click Add game in the lower left corner of the window.
- Click Add a non-Steam game.
- Check the box Crate next to Minecraft Bedrock launcher. You may need to scroll down to find it.
- Click Add selected programs.
You can now switch back to Steam Deck’s gaming mode and access Minecraft: bedrock.
How to start Minecraft: Bedrock in Steam Deck Gaming Mode
It's as simple as any other game
Gaming Mode is the best way to play games on your Steam Deck. Now that you have the Minecraft If you upload Bedrock Launcher to Steam as a non-Steam title, you will be able to access it on the other side.
- Open your Steam Library.
- Use R1 to Non-Steam Header.
- Choose Minecraft Bedrock launcher.
- Choose Play.
The main launcher window with profile options and play button that we saw in desktop mode will open. Select Play again to ensure full start Minecraft: bedrock.
If you want to use a keyboard and mouse instead of the integrated Steam Deck controls, you can use the Gamepad icon before hitting Play (in step 4 above). This will open numerous control options, including standard keyboard and mouse.
Contact your Minecraft Account via Microsoft
Synchronize your Minecraft Accounts
Minecraft should now run on your Steam Deck and look like any other version of Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, with a Register Button to the left of the main menu.
- Tap the Register Button.
- Enter your Microsoft credentials that you use for Minecraft.
You should now have access to all purchased items and texture packs for use on your Steam Deck.
It is annoying that you have to buy more Minecraft: Bedrock for use on the Steam Deck
In this manual you will find everything you need to Minecraft: Bedrock runs on your Steam Deck. Until we have a native way to easily use Minecraft: Bedrock Edition on Linux, this is the only way to use it on the Deck. I've only had success with this method and it was a blast playing with other friends on Realms while laying on the couch with Steam Deck in hand.
