Balatro, the super popular indie card game, is coming to mobile devices! The game will officially launch on September 26th for the iOS App Store, Google Play AND Apple Arcade. The announcement came today along with a surreal (and slightly scary) trailer that demonstrates the game's unique appeal.

For those who don't know, Balatro was one of the indie hits of 2024 thanks to its addictive gameplay. A card-fighting, deck-building roguelike with a twist, you build a deck of diverse and game-changing “wild” cards as you strive to beat ever-increasing odds (and scores) with different poker hands.

Balatro has been a huge success, with over two million sales since its launch. It’s no surprise that a mobile release for a hungry deck builder audience has been eagerly anticipated from virtually every corner.

Despite a rocky start, including being removed from the Nintendo eShop for allegedly promoting gambling, Balatro has proven to be another major indie success. While it may be little consolation to some would-be developers that their chances of being a major success are so slim, it does demonstrate that the indie landscape can produce bona fide blockbusters.

Personally, like Vampire Survivors, I’m excited to have a game like Balatro on mobile. I find certain games easier to follow in the palm of my hand, and given how many hours Balatro has taken away from people, I’m ready to spend my next long train ride.
