- Arknights developer Yostar is expanding its studio with a new team
- Hiring calls have already been released and their website reveals that the team will be focusing on an entirely new IP
- Developed for mobile devices, it could be a new game completely outside the Arknights universe
Arknights developer Yostar, following their upcoming Gamescom appearance to promote Arknights: Endfield, also announced the formation of a new mobile development team. As revealed on their website, the studio is looking to recruit a number of new developers to the team, with the intention of creating an entirely new IP and a potential new mobile game.
For those who don't know, IP (which means “intellectual property”) usually means an overall franchise. So we can assume from this that Yostar is looking to develop a completely new game and series, separate from Arknights. If that's the case, this would certainly be exciting news, as it represents an even greater increase in competition in the genre.
As we’ve often posited, since the launch of Genshin Impact, the popularity of 3D open-world ARPGs on mobile has skyrocketed. Whether it’s big names like MiHoyo, Yostar, Kuro Games, or others, pretty much everyone is trying to get into the genre.
What's so important?
In this case, we should look at MiHoYo. They currently have three main games (Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero) that capture three different genres (sci-fi, fantasy, etc.) but with similar gameplay. What Yostar seems to be doing is following their lead and possibly trying to have more games that also appeal to an audience that enjoys different settings. They already have a sci-fi offering in Aether Gazer, so the question remains, what would this new game be and what is its setting?
