Get ready to unleash your inner Viking as Nordic-inspired web-3 fighting game royale DARKTIMES confirms alpha launch for late 2024.
Set in a haunting medieval setting, DARKTIMES promises a fast-paced multiplayer PvP experience that leverages RPG-style skill trees and progression systems for more hands-on control than typical hyper-casual Battle Royale games.
Player input won’t be limited to just character development. The free-to-play title’s developer, Blowfish Studios, has adopted Sui as its blockchain platform of choice through a partnership with Mysten Labs, aiming to build a social-driven gaming ecosystem that puts players’ interests first.
On top of the brutality and blood magic you’d expect from a Nordic-inspired fighting game, DARKTIMES also adds a dash of British black humor and Tarantino-style over-the-top barbarism; if you can picture GTA5’s Trevor wearing chainmail and swinging a battle axe at his enemies’ faces, while spouting outrageous gibberish, then you’ll have an idea of the dark, comical violence that awaits him.
One aspect of DARKTIMES that you can certainly count on is the ability to integrate seamlessly with the game. By launching on Sui, the game abstracts blockchain elements that ensure the game environment is as frictionless as possible; the results of which will be on display during the game’s first playtest at Korea Blockchain Week, followed by an alpha launch of the game to select users later in the year.
“DARKTIMES began development quietly in late 2021, and we are thrilled to finally unveil it to the world, starting with Korea Blockchain Week,” said Lucien Dorman, founder and CEO of DARKTIMES. “DARKTIMES has always strived to provide players with a gaming experience that is indistinguishable from traditional gaming ecosystems. We chose to build on Sui to reduce friction and complexity for non-crypto native players, making it easier than ever for web3 gaming to become an enjoyable experience for everyone.
Rune Run, DARKTIMES’ interactive play-to-play campaign, kicks off August 30 in partnership with some of the largest web3 gaming and cryptocurrency communities, including Mocaverse, GAM3S.GG, MON Protocol, and W3GG, among others. Players can enter to win Genesis DARKTIMES NFTs, which will serve to provide early access to DARKTIMES when it officially launches in late 2024. The NFTs will also provide players with access to advanced tiers that contain larger prize pools and other game-focused rewards.
