A compact webcam with surprisingly good quality

Direct links

Obsbot has made some of my all-time favorite webcams over the past few years, and while I love the advanced tracking feature they offer, not every webcam needs a gimbal to follow you. The Obsbot Meet 2 is a much simpler webcam that you can easily take anywhere or use with a laptop.

Without the gimbal from the company's Tiny series, the Obsbot Meet 2 is very compact, but it still has a 4K sensor and the image quality is excellent. It also looks great, especially since it comes in three color options.

About this review: For this review, Obsbot sent us the Meet 2. The company had no influence on the content.

Obsbot Meet 2 pricing and availability

The Obsbot Meet 2 is available directly from Obsbot starting today, September 4, 2024. It should also be available through Amazon in the near future.

The Obsbot Meet 2 is worth $129, making it cheaper than most big-name competitors, such as the Logitech Brio or Dell UltraSharp 4K, which cost $199 without discounts.

What I like

The picture quality is great

When you're buying a webcam, image and video quality is obviously an important consideration, and thankfully the Obsbot Meet 2 fully delivers in that regard. It has a 1/2-inch CMOS sensor with f/1.8 aperture and 4K resolution (though it defaults to 1080p), and it all adds up to fantastic quality for meetings and calls. Most video calling services still limit video to 720p or 1080p, but having a sensor this good will still greatly improve your image quality in those meetings.

I compared the Obsbot Meet 2 to the current frontrunner among webcams, the Tiny 2 from Obsbot, and there weren't many differences. In daylight, the image quality is almost identical on both, with great detail and no noticeable noise. The Tiny 2 seems to have a shallower depth of field, so objects in the background are blurrier, but whether that's a good thing or a bad thing depends mostly on your preference. The examples below were taken in daylight, indoor lighting, or with no light (apart from the computer monitor), with the Meet 2 examples coming out on top in each case.

It is only in low light that the differences become more obvious. The Obsbot Tiny 2 has a little more trouble with extremely low light conditions. While my face was clearly visible with just the light from my monitor, the background of the image was much darker and almost invisible, while the Tiny 2 was still able to capture some details. However, this is a pretty extreme scenario, as no light was on except for the monitor where the webcams were. You should never be on the phone in such a situation.

I'd also like to point out that the autofocus works very well, and better than other webcams I've tried without a gimbal. Of course, without the ability to physically rotate, the camera can't follow me if I stand up or move around a lot, but it still keeps me in focus well if I don't move too far. It reacts very quickly to my movements, while many other similar implementations often take a few seconds to zoom in on my face after I move.

The automatic framing works very well

As for the sound, video recording with this webcam worked pretty well for me, and the dual microphones were more than good enough. The Obsbot Center app lets you change the level of noise reduction you want, and the camera also offers automatic gain control.

It looks good and is very wearable

The camera not only takes good pictures, it also looks good itself. Obsbot has significantly reduced the weight of the Meet 2 compared to the previous model Meet 4K. At 40.5 grams, it is almost half as heavy as the previous model at 72 grams. It is also lighter than most competitors, the Logitech Brio 4K weighs 63 grams. This means that the camera is actually suitable for laptops, something that is often overlooked with external webcams.

Of course, it's not just a question of size. The sleek, low-profile design is also helped by the fact that the camera is available in several different colors. You can choose between Cloud White, Space Gray, and Aurora Green, all of which look very good. I've mostly used the white model as it matches my keyboard and monitor well, but I think the Aurora Green option makes it a lot more fun, which isn't really a big deal with most webcams.

It's also worth mentioning that the camera works in both portrait and landscape modes. There are magnets on three sides of the camera so you can use it in any position you want. You can use the Windows Settings app to change the orientation you want to use in other apps. Some apps may also have this feature built-in.

What I don't like

No Windows Hello support

It's hard to find any biographical flaws with this webcam, but as always, I wish more cameras would have Windows Hello facial recognition built in, and that's something Obsbot continues to avoid. This is just a webcam, so if you want an easier way to unlock your PC, you'll have to look elsewhere.

Considering the price, though, it makes sense. Cameras like the Logitech Brio 4K and the Dell UltraSharp 4K have this feature built in, but outside of discounts, cost $70 more despite being several years old (especially the Brio). They're also larger and heavier.

I still love a gimbal

Obsbot Meet 2 next to an Obsbot Tiny 2

This isn't actually a fault of the webcam, but after using Obsbot's gimbal-equipped webcams for the past few years, I find it really hard to go back to anything else. While the software auto-framing works better than most alternatives I've tried, having a camera that physically rotates and tilts to capture you from every angle is just awesome, and you don't get that here.

If you want something like that, Obsbots Tiny 2 Lite might be for you. It's still a 4K webcam and still relatively affordable, but it does include that gimbal. You'll have to pay $50 more, though, and as much as I love a gimbal, not everyone wants or needs one. That $50 can be used for a lot of other things, and you're not giving up a huge feature.

Should you buy the Obsbot Meet 2?

Honestly, if you're looking for a way to improve your online calls and meetings, this is the one to go for. The Obsbot Meet 2 offers fantastic video quality for just about anyone, has a compact design, supports both portrait and landscape orientation, and even has a magnetic monitor mount and support for standard screw mounts. It's still a very versatile webcam, and at $129, it's a pretty good price compared to similar webcams.

The only reason not to buy it is if you want either Windows Hello support or a gimbal for even more impressive tracking capabilities. Otherwise, this is a fantastic webcam.

You should buy the Obsbot Meet 2 if:

  • You want a webcam with excellent quality
  • You want something that is easy to carry and can be mounted on a laptop
  • You are tired of plain black or white webcams

You should not buy the Obsbot Meet 2 if:

  • You want a camera with Windows Hello support.
  • You want full tracking capabilities with a gimbal
